RDR2 Moose Locations: Search Routes Without Spawn Promises
Try Owanjila, Lake Isabella and the northern lakes for ordinary moose. A listed area is a place to search, not a guaranteed spawn or a guaranteed perfect pelt.
Pick a region instead of crossing the entire map
| Route | Places to check | Search focus |
|---|---|---|
| Western | Owanjila and the north bank of Upper Montana River | Lake shores and nearby river terrain |
| Snowy north | Lake Isabella → Barrow Lagoon → Cairn Lake | Shorelines; west shore at Barrow Lagoon |
| Northeastern | Roanoke Valley → Brandywine Drop | Kamassa River corridor and falls |
| Epilogue option | Aurora Basin / Tall Trees | Forest and the basin’s western shore |
During Arthur’s main story, keep the Upper Montana River search on its northern side. Save the Tall Trees route for the epilogue.
Before you fire
Read the exact recipe you are working toward. A pelt, an antler and a legendary material are different requirements. Inspect the animal and its star rating, and choose the weapon recommended in Show Info before taking the shot.
Avoid taking a shot that leaves your target in deep water or on inaccessible terrain. Finding the animal only helps if you can retrieve the required material.
No moose this time?
Work through one regional loop, note which places you actually checked, then combine your next attempt with another task. For example, the northern route can share a trip with the Barrow Lagoon treasure clue.
This guide does not promise that saving, loading or placing bait forces a moose to appear. Spawns vary, and a visible animal may still be below the quality required by your recipe.
For the named legendary hunt, use the legendary animal tracker. For clothing materials, check the Trapper recipe list before selling.
