RDR2 Release Date: PS4, Xbox, PC and Steam Timeline

Red Dead Redemption 2 first released on October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC launch followed on November 5, 2019, with the Steam release on December 5, 2019. Those are three separate milestones, not conflicting answers.

Release dates by platform

ReleaseDateHow to read it
PlayStation 4 and Xbox OneOctober 26, 2018The original console launch.
PCNovember 5, 2019The first Windows release, before Steam availability.
SteamDecember 5, 2019The release date displayed on Steam's product page.

Check the platform attached to a date before comparing two sources. A store normally shows the date relevant to its own product. Steam's 2019 date does not mean the console version first appeared that year.

How long did RDR2 take to come to PC?

The gap from October 26, 2018 to November 5, 2019 is one year and ten days, or 375 days. The Steam release came 30 days after that first PC launch. These intervals are calculated from the confirmed dates above; they are not a development-time estimate.

A PC-port delay cannot tell us how many years the full game was in production. Likewise, an old announcement or preorder date should not replace the eventual release date. This page focuses on completed launches rather than reconstructing every rumor.

Did RDR2 release as a PS5 game?

The PlayStation product listing verified for this review identifies the game as PS4 and says it is playable on PS5. That compatibility statement is different from a native PS5 release date. See the PS5 buying and compatibility checklist before treating a newer-console store mention as a remaster.

We do not publish an unconfirmed upgrade date. When a future edition is explicitly announced, its product and platform should be checked separately from these historical launches. News about the first Red Dead Redemption also should not be silently applied to RDR2.

Release year versus story year

The game launched in 2018, but its main story is set in 1899. If your question is “when does RDR2 take place,” you want the story timeline, not the table above. That page explains the epilogue and the connection to the first game without recounting the ending.

If instead you meant how long it takes to finish, use the playtime guide. Calendar dates, narrative years and hours played answer different questions. Keeping them separate makes it easier to find the answer you actually need.

Buying today

A launch announcement documents what was offered then, not today's price or preorder benefits. Check your regional store for the current edition and available offers. Our Standard versus Ultimate guide helps separate the base game from extras, while PC requirements covers storage and hardware before installation.
