RDR2 Ultimate Edition: Bonuses and Buying Advice
RDR2 Ultimate Edition includes the Special Edition's Story Mode extras plus bonuses for Red Dead Online. Standard already includes Story Mode and Red Dead Online. Choose Ultimate for its extras, not because you need it to follow Arthur's main story.
Standard versus Ultimate
| Content | Standard | Ultimate |
|---|---|---|
| Story Mode and Red Dead Online | Included | Included |
| Special Edition Story Mode bonuses | Not part of the Standard bundle | Included |
| Ultimate-specific Online bonuses | Not part of the Standard bundle | Included |
Compare the full game bundles in your own regional store. An item named “Ultimate Edition Content” can be an add-on that requires the base game, rather than a complete copy. The Xbox listing linked below explicitly carries that requirement.
What are the Story Mode extras?
The published package lists an extra bank robbery mission and gang hideout, a Dappled Black Thoroughbred with a saddle, talisman and medallion bonuses, gameplay boosts and discounts, and the Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger outfit. Free weapon access is also listed for Story Mode and Online. These are bonus activities and equipment, not a separate campaign replacing the standard story.
Decide which extras you actually want before paying a premium. If your goal is simply to begin the adventure, use the beginner guide and compare the current prices of the full bundles. This site does not need to recommend the most expensive edition to make those guides usable.
What is exclusive to the Online bonus package?
The Ultimate package lists bonus outfits, a Black Chestnut Thoroughbred, the Survivor camp theme and a rank boost up to rank 25. These Online rewards are separate from Arthur's Story Mode equipment. Do not confuse the Online horse with the differently named Story Mode Thoroughbred.
If you only intend to play the single-player story, weigh the Story Mode extras on their own. If you plan to spend time in Online as well, include those rewards in your comparison. Our checklists focus on Story Mode, so they do not track your Online ranks or possessions.
Check these details before checkout
- Confirm you are buying the full game rather than bonus content alone.
- Check platform and account region; this page does not promise cross-platform entitlements.
- For a used physical copy, verify any required bonus code is included and still redeemable.
- Use today's store price, not an old trailer's launch promotion.
Older videos can mix edition content with time-limited preorder offers. Do not assume a 2018 preorder reward is included in today's purchase unless the current listing says so. We deliberately avoid a fixed discount or “cheapest ever” claim because prices vary.
Our recommendation
Pick Standard if you mainly want the story and the price gap matters. Consider Ultimate if the listed bonuses are worth the extra cost to you; the main story is not locked behind that upgrade. Before buying on PlayStation, see RDR2 on PS5; before committing your free time, see how long the story takes.
