Where to Sell Gold Bars in RDR2: Fence Locations
Sell gold bars to a Fence in Story Mode. A gold bar is worth $500; the Trapper and ordinary shop counters are not the destination for this sale.
Four places to find a Fence
| Location | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Rhodes | Just outside the town on its northern side |
| Saint Denis | The market area, near the Trapper |
| Van Horn Trading Post | The waterfront, east of the post office |
| Emerald Ranch | The Fence at the ranch; availability depends on story progression |
Select the Fence’s Sell menu, locate the Gold Bar entry and choose how many to sell. Check the item name and displayed amount before confirming.
How much will your treasure pay?
| Bars sold | Story Mode cash |
|---|---|
| 1 | $500 |
| 2 — Jack Hall Gang reward | $1,000 |
| 3 — High Stakes reward | $1,500 |
Those totals are bar count × $500. They do not price gold nuggets or other valuables, and do not describe Red Dead Online’s gold currency.
Why does the bar not appear?
- Confirm you are interacting with a Fence and browsing the selling menu.
- Check that you collected the treasure itself, rather than only its next map.
- Check the exact inventory name; a nugget is a different item from a bar.
- If the vendor is unavailable, return when the shop is open and the area is clear of an active wanted situation.
For another reward, follow High Stakes Maps 1–3 or the Jack Hall Gang route. Planning a purchase? The two fast-travel upgrades together cost more than the sale of one bar.
