RDR2 100% Completion: What You Can Skip
You do not need to collect everything for Total Completion. The game's largest sets only partly count: kill 5 of the 16 legendary animals, complete 1 of the 12 cigarette card sets, catch 10 of 30 fish species, discover 10 of 19 horse breeds, collect 20 of 43 plants and use 48 of 59 weapon types.

What you cannot skip
- All 90 challenges across nine categories. Horseman tracker
- The full legendary-fish quest: A Fisher of Fish contains 13 fish. Legendary Fish tracker

- All 20 dreamcatchers. Dreamcatchers tracker

Quick answers
Do you need all 16 legendary animals for 100%?
No. Total Completion asks you to kill 5 legendary animals; all 16 are not required. Hunt the remaining 11 for Trapper gear, not for the completion checklist.
Do you need all 144 cigarette cards?
No. One completed set of 12 cards is the target; the other sets are for a personal collection.
How many fish species for 100%?
Catch 10 of the 30 fish species. This compendium target is separate from the 13 legendary fish, which the full A Fisher of Fish quest does require.
How many horse breeds for 100%?
Discover 10 of the 19 breeds. The horse page notes that you only need 10 of 19 breeds, so the expensive coats are optional.
Do you need all challenges?
Yes. All 90 ranks across nine categories are required, and none of them are missable.
What are the easiest 5 legendary animals to get?
This site does not rank the animals by difficulty. The route table does show that one region can cover the required five on its own: Ambarino holds 6 of the 16, so clearing that single leg of the route is enough. Lemoyne also holds 5, but its five include the Legendary Panther, which is gated behind Master Hunter rank 9. See the route-by-region table.
Can you skip plants and weapons?
Partly. Collect 20 of the 43 plant types and use 48 of the 59 weapon types; the rest are optional for Total Completion.
What still has to be collected in full?
The 13 legendary fish, all 30 dinosaur bones, all 20 dreamcatchers, all 9 graves, all 10 rock carvings and the remaining collectible quests. All 90 challenges are also required.
