How Long Is RDR2? Story Length & Playtime Planning
Budget roughly 50–60 hours for a story-focused RDR2 run. Exploring and completing side activities can make the same game much longer. This is an estimate, not a completion deadline.
Choose the playthrough you mean
| Your goal | Planning range | What changes the time |
|---|---|---|
| Main story | About 50–60 hours | Mission retries and travel pace |
| Story with substantial side content | About 80–100 hours | Hunting, exploration and Stranger missions |
| A thorough completion run | Roughly 170–190 hours | Challenges, collectibles and cleanup |
These broad ranges are taken from the published reference below. They are not timings measured by this site, and the last range is not a guarantee that every trophy or personal collection goal fits within it.
How many chapters are there?
There are six main chapters and a two-part epilogue. Reaching the end of Chapter 6 does not finish the entire playable story. This page avoids mission titles and ending details.
Turn hours into a realistic schedule
If you play two hours per session, a 50–60-hour story estimate becomes about 25–30 sessions. At three sessions per week, that is roughly nine or ten weeks. This is simple arithmetic for planning, not a prediction about your save.
Choose a session goal before starting: a story mission, one short collection route, or preparation at camp. A single session can be satisfying even when the completion percentage barely changes.
Finishing the story is not the 100% checklist
The in-game Total Completion target includes specified side objectives. It does not require every possible collectible or interaction. Use our 35-objective planning checklist alongside the game menu, or read what you can skip for 100%.
